Absco Garden Sheds – Frequently Asked Questions
Who manufactures Absco garden sheds?
Absco Sheds are proudly Australian-made in Brisbane using high-tensile, premium BlueScope steel. They are specifically engineered to handle the tough Australian climate and are backed by industry-leading warranties.
How easy is the DIY assembly process?
Absco sheds feature the patented SNAPTiTE® Assembly System. This revolutionary design uses pre-drilled holes and labelled parts, reducing the number of screws required by up to 75%. Most customers find they can assemble their shed up to 80% faster than traditional kits.
How long does it take to build?
For a standard 3m x 3m shed, we recommend allowing 1–2 days with 2 people. Smaller "Space Saver" models can often be completed in a few hours once your base is ready. Having a second pair of hands makes the panel handling much easier and safer.
Do I need a concrete slab?
Yes. To ensure your lifetime warranty remains valid and your shed stays level and secure, we strongly recommend a reinforced, rebated concrete slab. A solid foundation prevents water from seeping under the walls and provides the best surface for anchoring.
Are anchors and fixings included?
Most Absco kits are supplied as the "shed only" to give you flexibility. Concrete anchors (bolts) are usually sold as an optional accessory. If you aren't sure which anchors you need for your specific site, the Shed City team is happy to advise you before you start.
Is my Absco shed waterproof?
Absco sheds are designed to be highly weather-resistant. However, like all steel garden sheds, they are not "airtight" structures. In extreme storms, some moisture may enter through joins or under the door. Using a rebated slab and quality weather seals can significantly improve water resistance.
What is the wind rating for these sheds?
The majority of the Absco range is rated N2 (Non-Cyclonic). If you live in a high-wind or coastal area, we offer Cyclone Kits for specific models to upgrade them to C1 compliance. Always check your local wind region requirements before ordering.
Do I need council approval?
In many parts of Australia, small sheds (under 10m²) are considered "exempt development," but rules vary by local council. We always recommend a quick call to your local authority to check height and boundary setback rules for your specific property.
What tools will I need?
You'll need a cordless drill, 3mm and 6mm drill bits, a Phillips head screwdriver, a tape measure, a ladder, and a pop-rivet gun. For safety, we always recommend wearing gloves, eye protection, and sturdy work boots during assembly.
Is there assembly support available?
Absolutely. Every kit comes with a printed manual, but you can also download the free "Absco Sheds" App. It features step-by-step assembly videos and "tips & tricks" to help you through every stage of the build.
What does the Lifetime Warranty cover?
Most Absco products come with a Lifetime Warranty against rust and corrosion. This gives you peace of mind that your investment is protected for the long haul. Be sure to follow the assembly and anchoring instructions to keep your warranty active.
What if a part is missing or damaged?
Don't worry—if you find a part is missing or was damaged during transport, simply contact Shed City with your order details and the part number from your manual. We will coordinate with the factory to get a replacement sent out to you immediately.
Can I use an Absco shed in a coastal area?
Yes, Absco's high-tensile steel is very durable. However, salt air is naturally corrosive. If you are near the ocean, we recommend regularly hosing down the exterior with fresh water to remove salt build-up and ensuring the base has excellent drainage.
